</div>
<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today is the 14th anniversary of when the Twin Towers in New York were hit. I can't believe that it's been that long, sometimes only seems like it happened yesterday. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had written down my feelings years ago in my personal journal about this day, but I wanted to write them down here again reflecting back on that day. I want my kids to know where I was and feeling the day it happened.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm not very good at words, so here goes.</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
The morning it happened, I was getting ready for school. I was listening to the radio when all of a sudden one of the radio announcers said that one of the Trade Center Towers in NY was hit by a plane. At first I thought that he was joking, b/c that's type of person he was. What a thing to joke about? Was the thought that came to mind. I finished getting ready and headed off to school.<br />
<br />
When I got to the institute building, one of my friends quickly motioned me to the TV that had been turned on in the common room. And there one the screen was a burning building with an airplane sticking out of it. One of the institute teachers was glued to the screen with the remote still in his hands.<br />
<br />
My friend was speechless, even for her. I sat down with my backpack still on also glued to the screen. So many thoughts were going through my mind. Who did this? Why would they do this? I can't believe what I'm seeing. All those people in those buildings, how were they going to get out? The country was in chaos so to speak.<br />
<br />
As people trickled in they too stopped to look at the TV. As my the time drew near for my first morning class I really didn't want to leave for fear I would miss something. But nonetheless I headed off to class. As I sat down in class still in somewhat of shock, my teacher walks in with a somber look on her face. She turns to us and said that she will be cancelling class today so that we can all process and reflect on what has happened and some of my classmates had family in NY and were anxious to know if they were all right. She dismissed us. <br />
<br />
All my classes were cancelled that day. So I returned to the institute building to watch more of what was going on. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to comfort my friends who were worried about their family members who lived near the towers.<br />
<br />
We all talked with each. Speculating why something like this would happen. Then at the bottom of the screen a banner appeared saying that another wreckage was found of another downed plane that was part of the attack, and another that had hit the Pentagon. At this point there are 4 planes that were used for this attack. 1 for each of the towers, 1 for the Pentagon and another that headed to another federal building that was taken off course by the passengers.<br />
<br />
It was just so heartbreaking to her that more people had to die for someone's evil attack. The buildings were slowly melting and you could hear the cries of those stuck on the top floors that had no way out.<br />
<br />
Then all of a sudden the one of the tower gives in and collapses. Then several minutes later the 2nd one falls. You can see the huge cloud of dust and debris rise up! People are seen running away. Some of those who were trying to help also lost their lives when the building collapsed.<br />
<br />
As the morning progressed I knew that I still had to go into work that day. I really didn't want to. As I walked in the door, my supervisor said that she had been trying to call me all morning, knowing that I was school. My phone never rang, maybe she had been calling my home line? She said that they were sending everyone home with pay to process the loss and the attack. I didn't even sit down or turn on my computer. I turned around and walked back out the door. As I headed home my heart was heavy. So many lives were taken. We still didn't have any answers.<br />
<br />
I got home and my Grandma and aunt had the TV on and they were watching the news. We were all awestruck by this.<br />
<br />
Now flash forward 14 years. Those buildings were never rebuilt, instead a memorial was built in their place.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=JN.LtWaV1T4j9ZT4XiuZAwopQ&w=300&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0" height="348" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Matt had the opportunity to visit the memorial in July while he was back east for work training. He said it's a beautiful place. He said you can feel the peace that comes from it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The country still talks about it as if it just happened. Just like the attack on Pearl Harbor, it's day that we will never forget.</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">

Day 3 was not packed, but more restful.<br />
<br />
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!!<br />
<br />
This is our actual anniversary day, 8/2/15.<br />
<br />
We attended church with Joe and Katie. After 12 years of being in a family ward, it was different to be in a singles ward. Very quite.<br />
<br />
Just before we got to church Matt and I drove by Walden Pond. I was surprised by how big it actually was.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Then on our way into Boston we did a quick stop at the temple.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3yRpoxAiV-vt_eRlLiVw3eoAGHLCQgS2Wj87-JXMphlbBPE0Vj2zN7aCjzk8Avf32csVQ5-P3jiyzrHIToN-JdkkveS7Uo7zZ7mfvC4HN9qSHQbnzFRnfbzCYOzVZLp4EIkWubV9Ahqo/s1600/boston+temple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3yRpoxAiV-vt_eRlLiVw3eoAGHLCQgS2Wj87-JXMphlbBPE0Vj2zN7aCjzk8Avf32csVQ5-P3jiyzrHIToN-JdkkveS7Uo7zZ7mfvC4HN9qSHQbnzFRnfbzCYOzVZLp4EIkWubV9Ahqo/s320/boston+temple.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So pretty. After our photo op we were on our back into town.<br />
<br />
We found the church building pretty easily with the directions. It was really neat, all in brick. I wish I had taken a picture. After church we chatted for a few more minutes and then we had to make our way to the airport.<br />
<br />
Oh man the lines at the airport in Boston are ridiculous! We made it to our gate a few mins before they were going to board us. We got some dinner, because we were starving.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, because I bought our tickets on Travelocity, we didn't get sit together. :( We were in the same row but in the middle seats. Total bummer. Oh well, but the good thing was that it was a non-stop flight home. It was a bumpy flight due to some crazy going on in the Midwest.<br />
<br />
Overall we totally enjoyed ourselves, and I'm ready to go back!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06847357641768440750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744229380638485435.post-70833515463653234982015-08-27T07:00:00.000-07:002015-08-27T07:00:02.046-07:0012 Year Anniversary: Boston Trip Part 2Okay onto day 2! This is now Saturday, 8/1/15.<br />
<br />
This was also an adventure packed day. We first started out with a yummy breakfast. Joe had recommended this diner called Bickford in a neighboring town.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Matt's, The Big Apple</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I went simple with an omelet, but no Matt had to get an item that took 20 mins to cook. He picked what's called The Big Apple. Basically, what it is a baked pancake with apples, cinnamon and sugar. As you can see that is all he could eat. He did have potatoes brought out before this. We took it back with us to have for breakfast the next day.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
After breakfast, we went back to the house to meet up with Joe and his girlfriend Katie. She and I clicked right away. Matt and I like her, she's a good match for Joe. Once the introductions we done we piled into the car and headed into Concord. Joe was going to take Katie and I to Orchard House, of course Matt tagged along. EEK!!! sidenote: Katie is new the Boston area and hadn't been there yet.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyw_c5i1-RDOL6J66UUuFXn8Y1f5DymXcs_rJl_5Gr_KqBfddZIA8_nTEklVvYY7Jwnq4OzWumk85mKYK_ZZK6-XG7sR9Gx_NCClwZKPMJOu8ea56EOV46kJBorR5OE_Ms4RGxVW6rNnY/s1600/orchard+house.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyw_c5i1-RDOL6J66UUuFXn8Y1f5DymXcs_rJl_5Gr_KqBfddZIA8_nTEklVvYY7Jwnq4OzWumk85mKYK_ZZK6-XG7sR9Gx_NCClwZKPMJOu8ea56EOV46kJBorR5OE_Ms4RGxVW6rNnY/s320/orchard+house.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Orchard House</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Okay, if you don't know what Orchard House is, I'll tell you. It's the home of Louisa May Alcott. She's the author of Little Women. Now the light bulb went off. ;) We got there just as the 10:30 tour was going to start. It was so neat to be in the home that inspired Little Women. I learned a lot of interesting facts about Louisa and her family.<br />
<br />
After the tour we went to the Sleepy Hollow cemetery in Concord. Okay so this is where we have little side adventure. We went to the originally cemetery next to the church. We looked and looked and couldn't find her. Then a local said there's a larger cemetery down the road where she's buried. So take a walk down there. Again we look and look and still can't find her. Then we notice a little trail and that took us to the family plot. Come to find out we could have driven there! We take some pictures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWmcDQ1k0-qbn0mW-1W8jExFHbCk2BzkpdH3SwvS13-L_TMpCBa5y-mBcbcSmLhZUOeRrS5gl5GGEwZLh027JxX9Lln8HlcP-TpbIR8c1BFloNfKdLIfwjo47jA4ap7nqIaqc_bSLsDA/s1600/LMA+family+plot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWmcDQ1k0-qbn0mW-1W8jExFHbCk2BzkpdH3SwvS13-L_TMpCBa5y-mBcbcSmLhZUOeRrS5gl5GGEwZLh027JxX9Lln8HlcP-TpbIR8c1BFloNfKdLIfwjo47jA4ap7nqIaqc_bSLsDA/s320/LMA+family+plot.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
She's buried on Author Hill next to Thoreau and Emerson. Who by the way were really good friends with the Alcott family. We weren't planning on coming here but was still fun.<br />
<br />
Once we get back to the car, we head over to the Concord Battleground. You know the place, "The shot heard around the world." It's a very peaceful place.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Minuteman</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Just a fun fact, the Minuteman statue that's there was sculpted by one of May Alcott's (little sister to Louisa, portrayed as Amy in the Little Women) art students. Who also sculpted the Lincoln Memorial. (Photobomb: if you look you can see Joe and Katie hugging behind the statue.)<br />
<br />
After taking in the view of the battleground, Joe suggested we go to Walden Pond. At this point Matt and I really wanted to see if we good get to Maine to have some fresh lobster, so we took Joe and Katie back and said we would try to see Walden Pond later.<br />
<br />
We head out to Maine. From where we were staying the Maine border is less than hour away. So naturally we thought good, we can go eat see some sites and come back. NOPE!! OH MAN! The traffic was horrendous! It took us over 2 hours to get into Maine!!! So we decided to do a drive by of the Atlantic Ocean, total bummer I wanted to enjoy the beach for a little bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Needless to say we didn't get to enjoy fresh lobster. :( We turned around and make our way down to Salem. Since it took us so long to get to Maine we also did a drive by of the House of Seven Gables.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Joe's mom was making us dinner, and we wanted to make sure we were back in time. We had a yummy Italian dinner waiting when we walked in the door. We enjoyed some fun conversations with Joe and his parents.<br />
<br />
That wraps up day 2. Stay tuned for day 3!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06847357641768440750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744229380638485435.post-39344678909045122072015-08-26T08:24:00.002-07:002015-08-26T12:53:33.190-07:0012 Year Anniversary: Boston Trip Part 1This year Matt and I celebrate 12 years of being married! I can't believe it! 12 YEARS!! This year we were able to afford a trip by ourselves! This was also the first time we have made a trip without kids. Yea us!<br />
<br />
Well anyways, Matt was already in Connecticut for training for his new job. He had been out there the week prior, and his training ended a few days before our anniversary. So I thought that it would be fun to meet him out there so that I can experience Boston. <br />
<br />
<em>*sidenote: Matt has been to Boston a few times already. Also if you follow my on Instagram you probably have seen these pictures but now I'm dishing the details of the trip*</em><br />
<br />
I made all the arrangements for the kids to be watched by their grandparents. They had fun while we were gone too. ;)<br />
<br />
I took a redeye non-stop flight on Thursday, 8/29/15, and arrived in Boston early Friday morning. I tried to sleep on the plane, but the flight attendant didn't hear me ask for a blanket only a pillow. I had a window seat and 2 ladies next to me were knocked out and I didn't want to walk them up by binging for the flight attendant. So I tried to sleep I would wake up cold. errr. I have to be warm to fall asleep.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
At the Boston airport, Matt and his friend Joe pick me up. It was non-stop adventure from there. We parked the car to take the public transportation. But I told the boys that I needed to change my clothes. I was wearing sandals and a skirt and if we were going to walking around town I wanted to be wearing good shoes. So I changed in the car, put on my walking shoes, literally my walking shoes, haha and headed down to the subway.<br />
<br />
Our first stop was Harvard. Such a beautiful campus.<br />

<br />
After a short tour of Harvard we were starving, so we set out to find a place eat breakfast. At first Joe kept taking us to these little café style places, Matt wasn't at all please with these. He wanted to sit down and have a big breakfast. So I turned to my Yellowpages app on phone. Handy invention. I found a place to eat called The Friendly Toast. OMG!! This place is awesome and it's tucked away on MIT campus.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDnmZ4SV7JrYlA13C5Vzq9nuJVN4Ki-2BPf90TBICtT3IyKeIcPDFywR_Gia16Mbg-zNLtdNMj5K5hmeEcUxTchxu_CcYPJtZCUnszKQ0uyBk0td2l4bEjtYqq7qkXVUla5XiYmmkw9W0/s1600/boston+breakfast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDnmZ4SV7JrYlA13C5Vzq9nuJVN4Ki-2BPf90TBICtT3IyKeIcPDFywR_Gia16Mbg-zNLtdNMj5K5hmeEcUxTchxu_CcYPJtZCUnszKQ0uyBk0td2l4bEjtYqq7qkXVUla5XiYmmkw9W0/s320/boston+breakfast.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is called the Mexican Mash.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
So I ordered the Mexican Mash. It had mashed potatoes, with jalapenos and chorizo sausage. I had 2 overeasy eggs on top with their homemade wheat bread. VERY TASTY!! I couldn't eat the whole thing. So if you're ever in Cambridge I highly recommend The Friendly Toast, it gets 2 thumbs up from us!<br />
<br />
Since we were already on MIT campus we down towards the Charles River to take some pictures of the cool buildings. Like this one.<br />

<br />
Although I'm not a marathon runner this was fun to see. There was some construction going on behind us to repair part of the buildings from the bombing that had happened here. Right next to it is the Boston Library. This building is gorgeous with amazing architectural features.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlp5zlyYoZtoMu4HS5YVGHhyegYcutXDVVrPKXxyqIYysJ1PUeZz4GcyLyKsggLsMKMtTKaPDNWG9fgAaDLKAPeUtvR_8UeyKeIA_ZMb-QhO9DT0TcII6xdtisvz0GlTP_6GaLhQzy4Ic/s1600/boston+library.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlp5zlyYoZtoMu4HS5YVGHhyegYcutXDVVrPKXxyqIYysJ1PUeZz4GcyLyKsggLsMKMtTKaPDNWG9fgAaDLKAPeUtvR_8UeyKeIA_ZMb-QhO9DT0TcII6xdtisvz0GlTP_6GaLhQzy4Ic/s320/boston+library.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Once we took a look on the inside of the library, Joe said that we need to do the Freedom Trail. On our way to the start of the trail I saw this really cool window display. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfsSkN8x5lyUC4dOH0MGANv8qpULgLs1HwHtaSAF3baLka1I7YJnAZvujoSooYK138xfPPpz6YAFMX81slXl4SwL9VB_yZrHJ25ZAPjqeBaZ1KHIkPtTDuFY1ENGtXnQYyGjlX9S9yqgs/s1600/window+display.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfsSkN8x5lyUC4dOH0MGANv8qpULgLs1HwHtaSAF3baLka1I7YJnAZvujoSooYK138xfPPpz6YAFMX81slXl4SwL9VB_yZrHJ25ZAPjqeBaZ1KHIkPtTDuFY1ENGtXnQYyGjlX9S9yqgs/s320/window+display.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, so if you know me I like to sew and craft and this window is just plain awesome! It's a display for a clothing store, not sure which store, but I had to take a picture of it. Anyways, so from here we headed to the Boston Common. Beautiful park in the middle of the city.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I love seeing pieces of history on display. We took a little break here to rest and hydrate. It was a little humid and warm. Once we were rested we started making our way to the Freedom Trail, but with another slight detour. Matt wanted to see the Cheers bar. It was only a little ways down from the Boston Common. I didn't get a picture.<br />
<br />
Okay, now we've made it to the Freedom Trail. Our first stop was church, we wanted to take a look, but we had to pay and wait for a tour guide. We didn't have a lot of time so we decided not to. Next to the church was the Old City Hall.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What's really cool about the Freedom Trail is that it's marked with a brick line. I wish I had taken a picture of it. As long as you follow it will take you to the sights. Like South Church.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point my phone started to die so I had to switch to my regular camera, which I'm glad that I packed in my bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We saw Paul Revere's house, and in front is the original cobblestone street. Very pretty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then it was off to the Old North Church. Oh somewhere in there we did eat lunch, nothing fancy. At this point I was super tired. So made our back to the subway to head back to Joe's house. We got back to the car and headed to Joe's, he lives about 20 mins outside of Boston.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A little background on Joe. He and Matt served together on their mission in Russia. They were never companions but they became good friends and they have stayed in contact with each other over the years. I mean I send the guy a Christmas card every year. haha</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay so at the house I'm so ready for a shower. I'm hot and sweaty and tired. I get cleaned up and dozed off on the couch for a little bit. Then Matt and I want to go out to dinner. We wanted sushi. So we were directed to this little restaurant in a neighboring town. Honestly, I couldn't tell you where.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After dinner we get ice cream at this place called Kimball Farm. We had seen it on our way to the restaurant. It's a neat little place. If you live in AZ it's comparable to Vertucci Farms. There's a mini golf course, small driving range, places to sit and eat BBQ, and of course order homemade ice cream. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We order our ice cream.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">That's a small scoop!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, so Joe didn't warn us that we need to get the kiddie size. I ordered a small scoop and by my standards what I got was a large. YIKES!! It's was really good though, but couldn't finish it. Once we were done we headed back to the house to crash.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that Wraps up Day 1. Stay tuned for Day 2.</div>

Summer's birthday fell on a Saturday this year, 18th, and Zoey's will be a in a couple weeks. Also with Matt going out of town on 19th for training we decided to celebrate both together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhamGdeNSmqyDcYKJWfkyzqY6OzC0wvrOF6OExg1aQ4-jA4MB6bHGTrOaKyYLto-BJGPEFD1tOoFZM4Fx4W1U5kGTRqehG3880ikON2wIdVS6XgX3ni_y_75vGy7qfudDJT4Qbz-6EE66I/s1600/birthday+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhamGdeNSmqyDcYKJWfkyzqY6OzC0wvrOF6OExg1aQ4-jA4MB6bHGTrOaKyYLto-BJGPEFD1tOoFZM4Fx4W1U5kGTRqehG3880ikON2wIdVS6XgX3ni_y_75vGy7qfudDJT4Qbz-6EE66I/s320/birthday+3.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I ordered 2 cakes. A regular sized cake for Summer to blow out her candle and for us to eat from and a jumbo cupcake for Zoey to dig into.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
They were simple cakes, Vanilla cake with a whipped cream frosting. It was super yummy! I love the cakes from Fry's.<br />
<br />
Zoey loved every minute of it! She dug right in!<br />

Summer had fallen asleep, so she was little grumpy and it took some coaxing to get her to cooperate. Finally Matt took her out into the garage to show her one of her presents. A BIKE!<br />

Then it was time to open presents. I didn't get any of Summer opening hers but I did get some of Zoey.<br />

<br />
Once all the presents were opened we headed out to Makutu's Island. We invited Grammy and Papa to join us. Makutu's Island is an indoor play area. Summer was in heaven running around, Scott liked it to. He made sure she was safe climbing. <br />
<br />
Before they started playing Summer immediately spotted a bungee jump. She wanted to do it. So Matt got her a ticket, she was upset that she couldn't go on it right away and had to wait her turn. Well her turn finally came and she loved every minute of it. I thought that she would be too scared to do it but no, she's a little daredevil. She even told the guy she wanted to go higher! <br />
<br />
I found a toddler area for Zoey to explore and loved it and even tried to take some steps! She wanted to keep up with the other kids.<br />
<br />
Just before we were to leave Summer wanted to ride on the little merry-go-round. So we put her and Zoey on it. Zoey did really well sitting there, either that or she was really unsure of what happening! haha<br />

He had been trying to get into sales for awhile and kept getting turned down. Well finally after a couple years of searching and rejection someone is taking a chance on him to give him that opportunity. YEA! Matt is now a sales rep for Cooper Surgical. <br />
<br />
I'm very proud of him for not giving up. Someone saw his potential and said, "why not?"<br />
<br />
He has to go to Connecticut for training and will be gone for about 2 weeks, with no coming home on the weekend. Bummer for me. But I will be meeting up with him after his training in Boston to celebrate our anniversary. Something to look forward to.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06847357641768440750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744229380638485435.post-16582528271837435492015-05-19T06:33:00.000-07:002015-08-27T07:26:58.119-07:00Arrow of LightScott earned his Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts and crossed over into 11 year old scouts! This is a big achievement in Cub Scouts.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
He and his den all earned it! We are very proud of him and the boys for accomplishing this step in the Cub Scout program.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMkGtIkwZoK9g7nVzQ3Zb_eL2-qIk6Vvyo1Ndn-IxC_DUSTCYFXTXSk-zjKwbiRUG7ip2_kL0aAlw7YGfuQ7ns4-BfOjdItr-BIgOcIyU4bz8PN26yDPYQNx011WmREKw8y3NMN2iGSd8/s1600/scout+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMkGtIkwZoK9g7nVzQ3Zb_eL2-qIk6Vvyo1Ndn-IxC_DUSTCYFXTXSk-zjKwbiRUG7ip2_kL0aAlw7YGfuQ7ns4-BfOjdItr-BIgOcIyU4bz8PN26yDPYQNx011WmREKw8y3NMN2iGSd8/s320/scout+1.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If you don't know about the scouting program let me give a little bit of detail. At the age of 8 boys can join Scouts and they start out in Cub Scouts. There are ranks for each age group. They first have to earn their Bobcat badge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigcsH5ZZyK_y240YpLvP28HSuyIUjdWMGnsSgL5xcXqh4CtAJDTAP9HtUQJ_tmFMNRFdnGDUm31bKowCW25wqPxqvlL2vLrAkGHnIuYA7ERm89FW22cTqHwoLuUif9mWgOifoaS_gFBwo/s1600/bobcat_badge.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigcsH5ZZyK_y240YpLvP28HSuyIUjdWMGnsSgL5xcXqh4CtAJDTAP9HtUQJ_tmFMNRFdnGDUm31bKowCW25wqPxqvlL2vLrAkGHnIuYA7ERm89FW22cTqHwoLuUif9mWgOifoaS_gFBwo/s200/bobcat_badge.png" width="195" /></a></div>
<br />
Then when they have done all the requirements they advance in rank to a Wolf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV1uJxn2vHhzeAq4LHOvLfCfXCIhhjjn0T6VIzic6-HFQOfXJPPCwXqShDhWcFz4ir5jKjLd-MqofwTNbn5Cu8M4e-BqjU_RD2ihj4sZc3VUy-pyYrS-7aht9gYfMZPshXfEdYAWllFXk/s1600/wolf+badge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV1uJxn2vHhzeAq4LHOvLfCfXCIhhjjn0T6VIzic6-HFQOfXJPPCwXqShDhWcFz4ir5jKjLd-MqofwTNbn5Cu8M4e-BqjU_RD2ihj4sZc3VUy-pyYrS-7aht9gYfMZPshXfEdYAWllFXk/s200/wolf+badge.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Once they have turned 9 and have completed the requirements they advance to a Bear.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9SZ3M1uEs2W_LE1oKoxIPfowZJ5KzQbk9yACrSMoUnITtvObJ0uUFohfaWKq62gF8KwKcwZlDSoYDB8sI8Q4gIc8claMBMxYQePBS2BwxlK8fBydEy22RWPzg7GGbM0bBTVIGQ4LoW8s/s1600/bear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9SZ3M1uEs2W_LE1oKoxIPfowZJ5KzQbk9yACrSMoUnITtvObJ0uUFohfaWKq62gF8KwKcwZlDSoYDB8sI8Q4gIc8claMBMxYQePBS2BwxlK8fBydEy22RWPzg7GGbM0bBTVIGQ4LoW8s/s1600/bear.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Then at the age of 10 they can advance to a Webelos.<br />
<br />

Then finally when they turn 11 they graduate from the Cub Scouts and cross over into 11 year old scouts. The 11 years are preparing to enter into the Scout program. They start to earn merit badges and are camping a lot more.<br />
<br />
Anyways, back to our ceremony.<br />

<br />
Here is what the Arrow of Light means.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The Arrow of Light award is the highest award available to Cub Scouts. It requires the Scout to have earned the Webelos Scout badge and eight activity badges. In addition to the skill and activity requirements of the preceding ranks, the Arrow of Light requires Scouts to learn the Scout Promise, Scout Law, and Scout Motto and visit one meeting and one activity of a Boy Scout troop, in preparation for advancing to the Boy Scouts. Earning the Arrow of Light will help earn many of the requirements for the lower ranks of the Boy Scouts. The Arrow of Light award is the only Cub Scout award<span style="font-size: x-small;"> </span>that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform. Both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts wear the badge below the left pocket. Adults wear the square-knot version of the badge above the left pocket. Cub Scouts who earn the Arrow of Light are eligible to join a Boy Scout Troop prior to turning the normally-required age of eleven or in fifth or sixth grade.</span></blockquote>

Haha!<br />
<br />
We blessed Zoey on October 19, 2014. This is the 2nd time we've blessed one of kids on a non-fast Sunday. My reasoning is that I wanted to be able to host a brunch right after sacrament and not have anyone feel guilty to break their fast early. It's not in the books that you have to bless your baby on fast Sunday, but traditionally they are. Not how that started. Wells anyways, this was such a special day for us.<br />
<br />
We had a good turnout from our family for this day. Tia Maggie and Tio Gerald came up from Tucson. And I had a special surprise from my cousin Trevor! I didn't even know he was in town from Utah!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Matt gave a beautiful blessing and it was inspired. Those who joined in the blessing circle were: Papa (Matt's dad), Uncle JD (Matt's brother), Uncle Rick (Matt's brother), Uncle Chris (my brother), Uncle Mario (my brother), Tio Gerald (my uncle), Great-Grandpa Elsberry (my grandpa), Taylor and Trevor (my cousins). I'm so lucky to have such faithful and worthy priesthood holders in my family, so that they can participate in special days like this day.<br />
<br />
After sacrament, we all met back at our house, where I had freshly cooked breakfast casseroles hot out of the oven. I figured out how to use my automatic settings on my oven, so that they would be cooking while we were at church. It was so nice to sit and chat with family and get pictures of Zoey's special day.<br />

We don't usually go out but this year we wanted to.<br />
<br />
It was somewhat last minute. We didn't have a babysitter lined up nor did we have a place we were going to yet.<br />
<br />
I think at about 3 Matt decided we were going out, and I mentioned we didn't have a babysitter and it was too late to get one. So we decided to go out later than we normally would have, so that Scott could stay home with the girls. <br />
<br />
We got the girls ready for bed and all Scott had to do was put them to bed. We found a restaurant around the corner just in case there was an emergency we would only be a couple mins away.<br />
<br />
We went to a Teppanyaki restaurant that also served sushi. When we got there was a line, of course because it's Valentine's Day. We saw a couple spots open at the bar sat down. Easy! We enjoyed some yummy sushi and had a great conversation.<br />

Instead with the weather being nice the Cub Scout leaders decided to hold it outside at Barney Park. We had some yummy food and the kids loved it.<br />
<br />
All the boys earned their pins, rank advancements, and belt loops.<br />

<br />
The Blue and Gold Banquet is a celebration marking the anniversary of when the Cub Scout program was introduced into the Scouting program. Here is how the BSA explains it:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em>Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a "birthday party" called the blue and gold banquet. In nearly all packs, the blue and gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. It's often the pack meeting for February. </em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em>The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents. Packs often like to invite former members and other Scouting or community leaders to take part in their blue and gold banquet.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em>The banquet can be like a regular pack meeting, with songs, skits, stunts, and awards. Or it can be something different and a little more special. Your pack may decide to bring in an entertainer such as a magician or a storyteller. Or you could have a video or slide show of what the pack did over the past year.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em></em> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So this year to celebrate we had a piñata! The boys absolutely loved it! Candy!! I mean who doesn't love candy! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-b61qX-c0_ILbOxLhzIX5EPKG1_OSpfrmwt0ZCOIqymVpN7NKVMx4oGoUa3uvJRHqNsN4LcNikE4xjqs9Tsz4E5SDIzUSpW3KwTuTgNEZzkibkOWIzOkTyYlvayaZmKYfetY9b4ZGuvc/s1600/scout+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-b61qX-c0_ILbOxLhzIX5EPKG1_OSpfrmwt0ZCOIqymVpN7NKVMx4oGoUa3uvJRHqNsN4LcNikE4xjqs9Tsz4E5SDIzUSpW3KwTuTgNEZzkibkOWIzOkTyYlvayaZmKYfetY9b4ZGuvc/s320/scout+1.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And of course you can't hit the piñata without having someone moving it up and down, because you know you just can't hit! I think each boy had a turn and even some siblings got take swing at it.<br />

Jen and Greg and their kids came into town to celebrate this year. It's also Zoey's first Christmas! Oh and Papa Earl was here as well.<br />
<br />
<strong>Christmas Eve</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
Christmas Eve this year was at Rick and Shellie's house. Rick read the traditional Christmas story from Luke. Grammy read her new Christmas book for the year. And of course the opening of the Christmas PJ's which I think is the highlight for the kids!<br />

Shellie had made this awesome quilt for Jack and Sandye with the Oregon Ducks O. She did a fantastic job. We had all the grandkids pose with Grammy and Papa with the quilt. We had all but one grandkid there this year. Derick was the only missing since he's on his mission.<br />
<br />
The kids had a lot of funny hanging out with each other.<br />
<br />
Once we got the kids to bed, Matt and I finished wrapping the rest of the presents. Then we took them over to his parents house, so that we could do Christmas morning there and have the kids open their presents with Chloe and Van.<br />
<br />
<strong>Christmas Day</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
We woke up the kids and told them that Santa brought all of their presents to Grammy and Papa's house. They kids were really excited. <br />

<br />
On Wed July 23rd I had seen the dr and I was still barely at 1cm. Very frustrating since with the other 2 I was further along by 38 weeks. So I decided to start taking the Evening Primrose oil capsules and rubbing Clary Sage oil on my belly.<br />
<br />
I think this did the trick b/c on Sunday I was having some mild cramping but then it went away. Then on Tues, the 29th, as I was making dinner at about 5 pm I started to feel cramping again. I knew these weren't Braxton Hicks contraction like what I was having since 30 weeks. These contraction and pains were the real thing!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
So at about 6:30 I texted my Tia Maggie to let her know that it was very possible that I was in labor and that we would have a baby that night. So she hurriedly got her things together and made her way up from Tucson. I called a friend, who had said that she would stay with Scott and Summer when I went into labor. She came over at about 8:30 and then Matt and I were off to the hospital.<br />
<br />
On our way I texted Matt's mom to let her know we were heading to the hospital and if she wanted to meet us there, she had just gotten off her shift as a nurse from another hospital. We get to the hospital and we get checked in, it is now just after 9 pm. The take me back into the labor and delivery triage room, get me all hooked and I'm having contractions but nothing steady, but I was dilated to 4cm!! WHOO HOO!! The oils must have worked. The nurse said that she will check me in about an hour.<br />
<br />
During this time Tia Maggie arrives and stays with me and then Matt's mom takes her turn and comes on back. Matt had to run home, he wanted to work while we waited knowing that the next couple of days he wouldn't be able to. I was totally okay with that, since I wouldn't be alone.<br />
<br />
The nurse comes back just after 10 pm and check me, I've progressed to 5 cm!! She said, "Well it looks like you will be staying."<br />
<br />
The take me on back to my delivery room. Another hour has passed and I have now progressed to 6 cm. Looking good, at this point we are all thinking that we might this baby tonight. I asked for an epidural. Let me tell you this was by far my worst experience in getting an epidural. OUCH!! The dr put in but it was so far to my left that my left leg was completely numb!<br />
<br />
Well a few mins had past by and I all of a sudden didn't feel too good. I felt like I was going to pass out and sure enough my blood pressure was dropping, probably due to the epidural. This not only happened once but twice!! This slowed down my labor. ERR! Dr Tutt was not on call that night and the On Call Dr didn't want to break my water, she wanted to see how I progessed. Well I sat at 6 cm all night until Dr Tutt arrived. He came in at around 8 am and said, "Let's have a baby!" He broke my water, much to all of our relief.<br />
<br />
This was my faster delivery ever! At about 9 am I said that I need to push and yep fully dilated! Dr Tutt came back in and got ready. In about 3 pushes little miss Zoey made her entrance.<br />
<br />
As the Dr was stitching me up and the nurse cleaning up the baby we revealed her name and Matt's mom's reaction was priceless. Zoey's middle name is Ella which is the name of Matt's great-grandma.<br />
<br />

<br />
I can't believe it! I have now 3 kids! She was just perfect, screaming and was totally hungry.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Recovery was slightly painful. It took a long time for my leg to go back to normal. It was so sore for about a week from being so numb. We were all exhausted but wouldn't have it any other way.<br />

Summer is sure giving me a run for my money! This girl gets into everything!! I was downstairs doing some things when Summer comes up to me and says, "mommy I color!" <br />
<br />
What? Wait color what? I looked down and at her and started laughing. She had found one of the black sharpies and colored on her arms and legs. When she's at Marva's house her a Phoebe color with markers, I guess she thought this would be okay. Oh dear!<br />
<br />
So of course I had to take a picture before I stripped her down for a bath.<br />

She is that happiest baby ever! She loves to make funny noises and faces. She loves her big brother and her daddy. She can say daddy very well and is learning to say Scott, but it sounds like dot. Other words she can say are baby, pretty, hey, hi and uh-oh. She loves her baby doll that her grammy got her for her birthday. She is a petite but growing and is on track with her milestones. This week she figured out how to walk and is doing very well with it. <br />
<br />
Ok, onto the photo bomb of her 1 year photo session. Thanks to my friend Amanda I love how the pictures turned out. Here are a few that I want to share.<br />

Our Story thus FarI can't believe that 10 years ago I married one of the cutest guys in my singles ward. Our story actually starts 11 years ago when we first met.<br />
<br />
I was the new girl to him in the group that I was in and he was just fresh off of his mission and new to me. I actually persued him and it most definetly paid off. It didn't take much and we were dating. By April of 2003 we were engaged with the help of my bestie and a video camera. <br />

Not long after we were married I found out I was expecting our first child, Scott. I was totally excited because I thought that it would take longer to get pregnant. I guess I get pregnant pretty easily which I will consider a blessing. May 26, 2004 we welcomed Scott to our family.<br />
<br />
We were busy with work, school and new baby. We later bought a house which later became a burden which we let go. Oh well, that's how life goes sometimes. We moved to an apartment and things weren't as rosy as we would have liked them to be. We hit a low, which happens in marriage. We worked through it but it didn't get better until Matt lost his job and we had to move in with his parents which I will be forever grateful to them and their generosity for letting us invade their home for more than a year. During that time we had to really rely on each other and the Lord to get through our rough patch. Things did improve and we were moving in the right direction.<br />

<br />
Matt got a new job, we moved out of his parents house into our own place again. Within a year of being in our own home I found out I was execting again! We had been talking about having another baby but I guess the Lord had other plans. The day after Thanksgiving is when I found out I was pregnant. By that time I was 7 to 8 weeks pregnant. What!? I already knew we were supposed to have another baby and I knew it would be girl. Actually we both knew it would be a girl.<br />
<br />
On July 18, 2012 we welcomed our sweet Summer. Life is good right now. We love our kids, we both have good jobs to provide for our growing family. It's not always easy but we are constantly working at it.<br />

This year we asked Scott what he wanted to do for his birthday. We gave him the option of going to Sea World and visting his cousins in San Diego or take a couple of friends to Sunsplash. He chose the first option.<br />
<br />
We left Friday morning. Summer did very well, I was worried that she would get bored and fussy but she slept most of the way. Thank goodness for the improvement of baby food packaging! I love the food pouches, because I could screw on a spoon designed for them and feed her on the road! We hit traffic on our way into Carlsbad but made in just in time to check into our hotel. Matt's sister met up with us at our hotel, she lives up the road from the hotel we stayed at. I do recommend the Carlsbad by The Sea Resort, if you are planning a vaca to Carlsbad. So the kids swam for a little bit and then we headed to dinner.<br />

Saturday was Sea World!! I haven't been to Sea World in years so I was probably just as excited as Scott was. haha We were meeting up with Matt's parents and sister and family. That was an ordeal as we were there first we got in pretty quickly through the car line and got in to a very close row to the entrance. For the others it took them 30 more mins. While we waited for the rest of the family to join us we saw the first showing of the dolphins. It was a really good show!!<br />

Once everyone was in the park we had a great time. We saw I think almost all of the animal exhibits, Matt and Scott went on the rides. The little kids got to play at the Seseame Bay, kiddie park inside, to run out some of their energy. We ate some food, which is WAY over priced! Applied sunscreen to the kids. I put some on my arms but I had forgotten about my neck and chest and they got pretty toasty by the end. Oops! We left the park at about 4 and headed back to our hotel. We all had a great time!</div>
<div class="separator" style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sunday we pretty much laid back. The kids wanted to swim so everyone was pool side except me, since I totally sunburned. I hung out in the hotel room out of the sun. In the evening we headed over to my SIL house for dinner to celebrate the boy's birthdays and let them open their presents and play. It was pretty relaxing day nothing too crazy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: left;">
Monday we left midmorning and got back into town about about 4:30ish. Scott wanted to see the movie Epic so we unloaded the car looked up the next showing of the movie and headed to theater. It was a really good movie! It was definetely a 3D movie.</div>

We had a great holiday weekend and it was well worth it to spend time with my little family!</div>

<br />
Scott and Matt and a fun time builing 'their' car along with the help of Papa, Matt's dad. Scott placed 2nd in his den and my nephew placed 1st for their den. Both boys were beaming as were their dads and papa. :)<br />
<br />
It was a fun Saturday morning to be with friends and family. There was some competition with the other dens in our pack. There were some pretty good looking cars that went pretty fast down the tracks that's for sure.<br />

Well after watching those shows we decided to try to eat better by decreasing our meat intake and increase our intake of veggies and fruits. Well so far so good. We've done it for a week and making meatless meals for a week are easy. I still have those frozen meals that are mainly chicken and I will use them from time. My grocery trip was much lighter on my wallet. Scott loves the meals that I've made and gobbles them right up. :) I love that the meals take have the time than they did if there was a meat involved. I wanted to share with you some recipes that I've found, Pinterest is wonderful thing! Here is my Pinterest board <a href="http://pinterest.com/danesas/meatless-meals/" target="_blank">Meatless Meals</a> for some inspiration.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06847357641768440750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744229380638485435.post-90108952104622032412013-01-23T08:53:00.000-07:002015-08-27T11:40:29.916-07:006 Month UpdateI can't believe that we have had our sweet baby girl for 6 months!
