New Temples!

Yes it's true the Phoenix Metro area will be getting a new temple!! It will be located in Gilbert and the other temple will be located in the Gila Valley. For those of you who aren't familiar with Arizona the Gila Valley is where Safford and other small LDS founded cities are. This is very exciting news. For a long time we have had only one temple in AZ and then the one in Snowflake was built in 2003.

Footy

The weekend of April 11-13 Matt had the opportunity to go to Ft Lauderdale to participate in a footy tournament. Footy is Australian rules football, no not Rugby, it is not as aggressive, but they do use a rugby ball. I won't go into too much detail but if you want to know more go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football.

Matt has been playing footy off and on for about 3 years and he loves it. While he was in Florida he and his friend Rob crashed at my sister's place and had a blast. I've posted a few pictures of his trip.

Dilemma: Temple Dress

On Saturday I finally sewed the sleeves on to the bodice of my temple dress. I was thrilled to have at least that much done. In my excitment I proceeded to try on what I accomplished and to my dismay it didn't fit. :( How could that be? I measured and made sure that I cut out the right size. Well either the pattern that I choose must run small or maybe it is the material that doesn't have a lot of stretch in it. Well it looks like that I will be back at the material store buying new material for the bodice and cutting the pattern larger. What a drag. I guess that is all part of the process of sewing. Trial and error. I now know that if I choose to make another dress using the same pattern I know to cut it a little bit bigger than I normally would.

Current Project: Temple Dress

A few weeks ago I decided that it was time to get a new temple dress. So I started looking and I liked a few but none seemed to be me. So I decided that I would make my own dress. I recruited my new sister-in-law, Carree my brother's wife, to help me. We found a pattern that was Perfect. I've posted a picture of the pattern below.

What we did was combine the two bodices together. I didn't like the gathering on the dress on the right so we use the neck line from the dress on the right and fitted it to the bodice of the dress on the left. And of course we are using the long sleeves. Here is what the bodice looks like so far.

I know, the sleeves are not sewn on yet, but gives us some credit we both work full time so we are doing this on Friday nights after work and on Saturday afternoons. Here is what the material of the bodice looks like. It is brocade pattern, which is a tone on tone of the same color and the design has a sheen to it. I fell in love with it and had to buy it.

Had I bought a new dress it would have cost me twice as much than what I paid for the material and pattern. This dress is going to be made with love and dedication. I will keep you all posted on my progress.
I encourage anyone who reads this blog to please post a comment. I like to hear what people think.
